VR_A VIRTUAL SIMULATION FOR METAL FORGING
FORGEHAMMER

An old and labor intensive technique brought to the public in VR.

This simulation was developed for Motz GmbH, a company in the south of Germany that still produces medical instruments with giant forge hammers. The VR application allows users to virtually practice the first steps in the making of a steel handle. To create a true-to-life experience, we took pictures of the original equipment around a forging station and reproduced it. We recorded the sounds produced by the movements of the forge hammer and we even connected an Arduino with a relay to a small heater so the users can feel warm air when opening the virtual oven. Partners: Dejo-Media.

Having to digitally reproduce real things has taught us this: the complexity of physical reality is mind shattering. Trying to copy it is a humbling act. Each edge bevel, scratch & grease shine hides all of humanity &more.
