Virtual Reality, Job Simulator

DROP FORGE HAMMER

The application is a simulation of the forging process used by Motz GmbH, a company in the south of Germany that manufactures drop forged parts for surgical instruments. The simulation mimics the first steps of the process: picking up cold steel rods, placing them in a heated oven, and activating the drop hammer to press the hot rods into the form work. The application was integrated into the Motz expo stand at the ACIG Expo in Tuttlingen, Germany.

VIRTUAL DOPPELGANDERS

The application features virtual replicas of real equipment. The replicas were built in 3D and textured using photos taken on site. Parts of the equipment were then programmed to provide interactivity in Virtual Reality. (Real oven left, virtual oven right.)

ARDUINO MICROPROCESSOR

To create an accurate experience, we took extra steps to bring in key elements: specific sounds and heat. We recorded sounds on location and synchronized them with VR actions. To render the heat of the oven, we connected our application to a Arduino Nano that switched on and off a real heater following the player’s interaction with the oven door.
